KUCHING: A new Normah Hospital will be built in Sarawak equipped with the best medical care technology.

Disclosing that the new building will be a state of the art hospital, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari asserted that it will also be an environmentally friendly hospital.

“This hospital will be built near the river so that the patients will be able to enjoy the view during their treatment and post treatment.

“Moreover, around this new hospital, we will also build a shopping complex and hotel so that it can provide accommodation to the patients and those who are with them,” he said.

He said this when officiating the launching of the new Cardiovascular Laboratory (CATHLAB), MSCT and MRI at Normah Medical Specialist Centre today.

Touching on the new hospital, he said that they will get specialists to help them in terms of how the building should be constructed and what are the information technology (IT) facilities that must be equipped in it.

He shared that the inspiration behind this decision is from the time when he visited a laboratory in Italy where he personally saw that they have equipment to interact with the surgeon in the United States in real time by using virtual reality to spot diseases and find solutions to the problem faced by the patient.

“That is why I believe in this technology in medical care. There are a lot of improvements that can be done with technology.

“For that, we want to transform Normah hospital in such a way. The doctor can be in the United States while the patients can be in the Normah hospital. That is going to be the trend in the future.

“You have the equipment but you also need the ecosystem for the equipment. Therefore, with this new hospital, it will provide a very comfortable environment for the patients, doctors, people, as well as the stakeholders,” he said.

For the record, the Sarawak Government built Normah Medical Specialist Centre in 1988 and it became the first private hospital in the state.

Since then, the medical centre has been serving the people of Sarawak for the last 34 years.

Throughout the years, it has advanced from being a small locally known hospital to a world-class internationally renowned hospital.\
